MID-TERM EXAMINATION
1. Classic Poem
“To My Beloved”
When first I saw thy gentle eyes,
The world grew soft, the heavens near;
The winds were hush’d, the stars grew wise,
And love’s sweet voice was all I’d hear.
Thy touch — a calm on restless seas,
Thy smile — the dawn on sorrow’s field;
If time should steal such charms as these,
My heart would still refuse to yield.
For though the years may fade and part,
And roses lose their tender hue,
The truest home of all my heart
Will still, forever, dwell in you.
2. Contemporary Poem
“The Noise Inside”
I don’t talk about it.
Not because I forget—
but because memory
is too loud.
A door slams
and my chest folds in.
Someone laughs too hard,
and it sounds
like breaking glass.
They say time will heals,
but some wounds
learn to breathe
instead of close.
